Haibike Mini Enduro / WGES Rd1 – Bike Park Wales.

Race Day Saturday 17th March 2018.

The Format

The Mini Enduro’s take place over one day and will be of a shorter distance to allow riders to practice the stages before the start of the race later in the day.

We will be starting racing later in the afernoon for this race to give you more time to get round the stages, racing will now start at 1.00pm

The format is practice in the morning and race in the afternoon over the 3 stages, there will be nice easy transitions times between stages with no penalties for arriving late using a mash up format so you can ride with your mates for this one.

The stages will be all gravity with no uphills, just blasting down some of the best trails in Bike Park Wales.

Distance will vary but expect around 10 miles to complete the 3 stages and the route.
With a morning practice lap and the race you will cover around 20 miles.
The transitions will follow the marked route to keep everyone going in the right direction.

Your are not timed between the stages but you are given a stage start time to try to keep everyone in their categories.

All 3 stage times will be added together to produce the overall results for each category.
E-Bikes get a challenge stage which will be a techinal uphill climb

Quote from Sean Bacon from the last race “Great fun races the mini’s. Can’t recommend them enough.”

Location

Bike Park Wales.

The map for the stages will be released on the Friday before the race but will use Three Reds and One Black trail.
Note: The Black trail will start after the qualifier jump and Two red trails will joined to make one long stage

Race Entries.

Online Entry

Who can race? if your 14 or over have a mountain bike and a helmet then you can race.

These races are for new riders to the sport of enduro and also more established racers who want to have fun without the pressure of racing the National Uk Gravity Enduro Series

The Trailhead Senior Category Series

We are thrilled to have The Trailhead Bicycle Company onboard as a category sponsor supporting the bigger than ever senior category. Trailhead are just as focussed on grass roots racing as we are, the One Industries Mini Enduro is all about getting new riders into the sport, we do this by offering high quality fun races with professional timing in a laid back atmosphere.
The Mini Enduro races are all standalone, so there is no pressure of racing an entire series. You can just enter any event and ‘race as you go’.
However ourselves and Trailhead have realised that some people still like racing for an overall position at the end of the series, so Sandy from the Shrewsbury based bike shop is going to also sponsor the overall winner of the senior category as well as offer prizes at each round for the top 3 in seniors.

Rules

There are minimum 3 stages in each event, with transfers in between these transfers are not timed and do not count for the overall standing. Special stages close at a specified time, to ensure the event finishes on time. Riders will be notified at registration on the morning of the event

Time Controls are used check riders in ready for the stage start time.

Bikes

An all mountain bike is ideal for these races but any mountain bike is allowed

  • E-bikes
  • hardtail,
  • short travel,
  • long travel,
  • 29”
  • a downhill bike but not recommended with the riding in-between transfer stages.
  • Only one Bicycle can be used during an event, including any transition stages.
  • Competitors must start and finish the competition on the same frame, fork and wheels.

Hardtail?

Some say there is not much disadvantage to racing on a hardtail to a full suspension bike so why do a category for them?

We see this has ride what you have a type of racing if you have an all mountain bike that’s great if you have hardtail XC bike or a do it all hardtail then this is way for you start racing on it and chance to stand on the podium in your category.

E-Bikes ?

All bikes used to compete within the E-bike class at the mini enduro races should comply with the current eu directive and abide by the rules in force, they are as follows (but not limited too)

1, A motor rating of no greater than 250watts motor rated output.

2, An assisted maximum speed limited to 15.5mph.

Equipment

  • A helmet (open or full face) must be worn during all race and transition stages.
  • Knee and elbow protectors are advisable.
  • All Competitors must be self-sufficient and prepared for a varying climate as well as any basic mechanical repairs. Consideration should be given to the nature of the course and the length of time the event may take to complete.

This course is marked with signs and with some sections that are taped if a specific line should be taken on the stage.

If a competitor leaves the trail/course, they must re-enter at the same point and must restore the tape as they found it.

Over Taking Slower Riders

We all have our own speed of racing some are fitter & faster than others which can lead to faster riders catching up slower riders on a stage.

If a faster rider is behind you on a special stage, be polite and allow them to pass. If you are the faster rider, be patient and give lots of warning and clear directions as to what side you will pass. For example; shout left, if you intend to pass on the left hand side of the rider in front.

If you over take a slower rider on the stage then you can continue in front of the slower rider for the start of the next stage. This will stop the faster rider always catching the same rider again in the next stage.

Time Controls (TC)

At the start of each stage there will be a time control. You must reach the TC no later than your start time which you will you be advised of with your stage start times. In the interest of safety each stage has a cut off time when the stage is closed. Riders arriving after the stage has closed will not be allowed to start and must return to the finish area.
